All-Energy 2026 Strategic Summit: Alternative Fuels, CCUS and Hydrogen
Thanks to the All-Energy Strategic Summit Committee and All-Energy organisers on 14 May our Managing Director, Philippa, chaired a panel titled Alternative Fuels, CCUS & Hydrogen. The question asked of the panel Donna Sutherland (Veri Energy), Nick Terrell (Carbon Catalyst), Angus Yorkston (SSE), and Dan Moloney (GIDARA Energy), was to explore the opportunities and challenges around driving the low-carbon industrial revolution.
The audience heard from the full chain; carbon capture studies for the Peterhead Carbon Capture Power Station project, permanent carbon storage with the potential to offset emissions the Poseidon Project, Perenco CCS (Carbon Storage), liquid fuel production employing Shetland’s vast potential for green hydrogen production and port capacity for CO2 import Sullom Voe, alongside gasification of wastes to produce liquid fuels.
Key messages were :
- the need to take a whole system approach to the energy transition, including liquid fuel use for aviation, shipping, road haulage – and as feedstocks for a huge number of products
- that China and the middle east are progressing at pace, China already has a huge capacity of wind and solar and is viewing production of e-methanol as a valuable global market solution
- barriers in the UK include funding, in particular it is possible to get equity funding but not project development funding
The speakers were clear – we need action in the UK to address these issues and take a whole system approach to energy and power.
