Decarb Scotland is the industrial decarbonisation alliance for Scotland.  We envision a thriving prosperous Scotland producing low carbon products for export and use across the economy, enabled by Scottish supply chain skills and expertise. Through supporting project development, sharing knowledge and promoting innovation, we work to reduce emissions and strengthen skills – to build a resilient, sustainable economy, and position Scotland as a global leader in industrial decarbonisation.

Our objectives:

  • Engage with key stakeholders to deliver industrial decarbonisation alongside a just transition for workers in Scotland
  • Enable the Scottish supply chain to prepare and scale for decarbonisation opportunities
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange and sharing of good practice with other UK and international industrial clusters
  • Champion industrial decarbonisation in Scotland

Vision & Mission

Our vision is a thriving Scotland through decarbonisation.

Our mission is to collaborate with all stakeholders to decarbonise industry and drive economic growth and prosperity.

Why Scotland?

Scotland offers a unique combination of assets that make it ideally placed to lead industrial decarbonisation:

  • Vast CO2 storage capacity – two thirds of the UK’s estimated 78 billion tonnes of storage
  • Huge offshore wind opportunity – ScotWind leasing round alone aims to deliver around 25GW of power
  • Network of existing gas pipelines – reducing costs through repurposing to transport CO2 or hydrogen
  • Deepwater ports – ready to handle gas transport and co-located with existing industry
  • A skilled workforce – already transitioning from the oil and gas, and petrochemicals industries
  • Innovative companies – poised to deliver solutions to complex problems alongside a strong academic research base

These advantages position Scotland as a natural hub for carbon capture, hydrogen development and clean industrial growth.

What is Industrial Decarbonisation?

Industrial decarbonisation refers to the process of reducing and ultimately eliminating carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from heavy industry and energy-intensive sectors.

  • Capturing carbon emissions before they enter the atmosphere
  • Transitioning from fossil fuels to low-carbon energy sources
  • Improving energy efficiency and industrial processes
  • Developing new clean technologies

Industrial decarbonisation is essential to achieving national and global climate targets while maintaining industrial competitiveness and economic growth.
